"The Future of Life Institute released Slaughterbots on November 13, 2017, coinciding with the meeting of diplomats in Geneva for the first formal session of the United Nations Group of Governmental Experts on Lethal Autonomous Weapons. The short film, seven minutes and forty-five seconds long, was commissioned by the institute, produced by Space Digital, directed by Stewart Sugg, and written by Matt Wood. It was screened at an event organized by the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots, a coalition advocating for international restrictions on weapons capable of selecting and attacking targets without significant human control. The choice of timing was deliberate. The UN debates were technical, legal, and practically invisible outside the arms control community. Slaughterbots translated that debate into an image comprehensible to almost anyone."
