There is no story about wolves in Europe that is not read as a very transparent metaphor about resistance, repopulation, and territory.

"This young wolf, thin and with light brown fur, raised concern earlier this month after a series of encounters in the outskirts of Norre Nebel, a small town located 270 kilometers west of Copenhagen. Witnesses reported that it slipped into private gardens, approached people, and, most concerning for the authorities, showed little intention to flee.

Its behavior clearly suggested that it had been fed, teaching it to associate humans with food and reward, said Peter Sunde, a Danish wolf expert and professor at Aarhus University.

"If they start considering humans as a food source, then that is the path toward problems [for the wolf]," he said, explaining that authorities take an inflexible stance toward wolves that approach people. "A fed wolf is a dead wolf," he said.
