Last April, television consumption increased among those over 65, but fell by double digits among all population groups in all age groups between 4 and 44. While retirees dedicate more than 300 minutes a day to these channels, children only invest 49 minutes in this task; young people between 13 and 24, a total of 45; and adults from 25 to 44, just under 75 minutes.
Currently only 13 programs exceed one million daily viewers, compared to 24 five years ago and 29 a decade ago. El hormiguero led in 2016 with nearly 2.9 million viewers and a 15.3% share, while last season it registered 800,000 fewer followers with the same screen share.
If the audience of generalist news programs in April 2016 is added and compared with that of the same month in 2026, it can be seen that the net loss of viewers is 2.5 million. Antena 3 gains 185,000, Telecinco loses 1.3 million, La 1 loses 539,000; LaSexta, 561,000 and Cuatro, 305,000.
In 2007, the sector billed almost 3,500 million euros. The year 2025 closed with 1,784 million. In this last financial year, advertising in search engines exceeded 1,000 million euros for the first time. Social networks obtained 880 million.
